glitz + riviera glam

Thought I would start the week with a little glitz a la the Fendi Spring 2012 show in Milan...I'm obsessed with the makeup (who doesn't love a little sparkle?)! Karl Lagerfeld did an impeccable job portraying Italian Riviera-like summer glamour (blown out bouffants, summer suits and oversized shades with twinkling eyes beneath). What's not to love?!  I'm absolutely dying over the striped trench.

Stay tuned for new posts this week...

distressed chic.

I'm absolutely loving the look of distressed, casual denim (in a lighter wash) paired with polished, more formal pieces (sequin jackets, structured bags, tailored blazers, pretty pumps).  Maybe its the juxtaposition of opposites, or just the fact that this look is so effortlessly chic...either way, I can't get enough of it. Try cuffing your worn boyfriend jeans for added style or throw on with your favorite tee and a bright blazer...this look can really work for anyone and will definitely give your look a little more edge without a ton of effort.

Happy Friday! Wishing everyone a fabulous weekend full of relaxation and fun.  Would love to just stay in and watch old movies with some good wine, lounging in this little number...what do you think? xx

flashes of gold.

Umberto Angeloni once said that "the most challenging part of dressing well is knowing how to be elegant while being casual." Add some subtle shine to your next weekend outfit with simple touches of gold. Whether it be hardware on a belt or bag, or a chunky gold watch and bangles, a little gilded accent goes a long way in terms of making a casual look appear pretty and polished.

color block.

Daring, bold color absolutely makes for better eye candy [especially when paired with a little pop of leopard print].  Spice up your summer wardrobe and throw a bunch of saturated brights in close proximity.  Whether its a graphic, color-blocked dress, two-toned heels or just a few colorful stacked bangles, loud hues serve as instant mood boosters  and always make for a cheeky, fun statement.  One of my favorite combos is the less expected (and often thought of as clashing) hot pink and red duo. Pick a few vivid shades (two or three, not too many!) and go for it - as Jonathan Adler puts it, it's so "happy chic."

latest obsession: prabal gurung for j.crew

Super chic Singapore-born designer, Prabal Gurung has created an amazing limited edition line for J.Crew that literally caused my heart to skip a beat upon viewing the collection. Playing with volume and scale, Gurung designed a collection that was both modern and chic, yet comfortable and approachable. Take a look at these amazing must-haves [and grab them before they're gone...only 50 pieces were created for select styles!]...

mix the glitz.

Most who know me are aware of how much I love over-the-top, borderline gaudy jewelry [the bigger the better].  And just when you think that one piece is a bit much, I will most likely pile it on top of another equally audacious choice.  Hence, my firm belief in taking risks and adding just enough to make a unique statement that exudes a confident sense of personal style while also adding a bit of whimsy to your wardrobe.  I tend to buy more accessories and jewelry than clothes - and not just because I have an unhealthy obsession; moreso, because I believe you can instantly update and glamourize any outfit [be it a simple black cocktail dress or even a basic Gap tee] with a fabulous piece of costume jewelry...here are a few examples of what I mean:

Add a little glam to that nautical tee with some outrageously mixed jewels.

J.Crew really popularized this look and made it approachable, so I always keep an eye out for their newest creations. They have amazing pieces that are affordable and classic, but vintage-inspired and always a bit dramatic.  Here are some great pieces that are perfect for laying, but also statement pieces on their own...

I just purchased this piece which is perfect for layering since it lays flat. Try laying other flat, jeweled pieces on top or even short, chunkier layers of pearls for a bold, "piled on" statement.  This necklace is great because the little rhinestone-encrusted bars will peak out of just about anything you choose for a little glimpse of sparkle!

The newest addition to my collection from J.Crew

I came across this gold bamboo and rhinestone necklace from Kate Spade that I think would be so classic intertwined with an equal-lengthed set of pearls [just twist the two around each other and clasp for a traditional look with a unique edge].  That would seriously be a go-to everyday necklace for me...love.

London calling...

With all of this wedding hype, I just had to post this image that combines two amazing symbols from my favorite city - the graphic Union Jack + the one-and-only Kate Moss. Her chic, yet edgy style is impeccable and just excudes, "cool."  So London...

easter sweets.

With the infamously pastel-colored holiday just around the corner, I had to share some of my favorite sundresses from Lilly that are out right now. These candy-colored confections will have you celebrating in style, and like all LP finds, will work for many Easters, lawn parties and horse races to come!  If there's one thing about Lilly, its that her good taste is timeless...and we love that.

There's nothing better than a sunny yellow grograin stripe dress! Love!!

The pretty beading on this paired with the cotton silk faille grograin stripe give it a
dressier feel than the typical cotton Lilly, making it the perfect party dress!

Who doesn't love a little Kelly Green??

[Scooped this up when it first came out - the flamingos are so fun!
Looks great with a fun statement necklace or glitzy earrings]

Pink Seersucker perfection.

[I own this in white and navy - was so in love, I had to get both!
Such a classic staple for any closet. I like to switch up my belts between the
two for a fun twist - navy on white and white on navy]
